I didn't really like Titans after finishing season 1. This is coming from a guy who likes Zack Snyder's DC movie trilogy by the way.

I hope James Gunn's DCU will do the Teen Titans justice if they get a movie or show set in that universe.

Titans is great! I love how the show kind of flips the normal style and shows us how the lives of a group of villains goes, how their acts impact those around them and how they try to ignore them for their own sake. Especially in season 2, when their villainy almost becomes too much for one of their own! Truly an inspired approach.

Jeez... this is like a mix of The Boys (if bad and taking the comic's tone), 13 Reasons Why and Velma, but with a pinch of Zack Snyderism. I swear that some Comicbook writer, a very controversial one (probably the editor in chief at the time), HATED legacy characters and wanted a show to destroy their credibility so hard that people will in proxy hate the comics that stars them. That is Evil...

They hyped up Blackfire to be the main villain only for her to end up the victim or something. Then Scarecrow ended up main villain. Doesn’t make sense.

Only thing cool about this show was Hawk and Dove. The dialogue was boring and corny. That blue filter was atrocious and their environments were devoid of background actors except for the episode at the carnival where Donna Troy died because an electric tower collapsed on her.😂 They kept bloating this show with more characters and less story

I'm so glad these reviews, video essays and critiques exist because I had someone recommend HGS to me by saying it was kinda like The Owl House for adults. I'm grateful not to have wasted my time and kept my expectations from being assaulted 😅

They should've just used the 2003 Teen Titans show as inspiration. I have no idea what they were going for here. This show was just awful. There's no reason to even watch it because none of the characters resemble the characters they're based on.

So 1. I think people don’t realize that often, this type of criticism is due to a sort of affection for the potential of a show. You wanted to see that potential succeed and what it could have been, so what you actually get makes you kind of upset. 2. I’m a trans dude who ACTUALLY WATCHED High Guardian Spice and I didn’t think it was good either. It had the start of some cool stuff and some good ideas but the end product wasn’t really good? It just wasn’t enjoyable to watch, and I’m the type of person who has pretty low standards for what’s enjoyable to watch. I can usually find something to enjoy in an overall bad movie or TV show, like the visuals, music, or cinematography, but High Guardian Spice is like Dragons the Nine Realms. 3. I personally found She-Ra and the princesses of power enjoyable to watch but it’s definitely also a flawed show. While it does have lots of neutral and positive representation of the LGBTQ+ community, what it has to say about abuse is…_Questionable_. Not sure how that relates to High Guardian Spice or Dave’s critique other than the commenters grouping all queer creators together.

If Jerico didn't want Deathstroke to kill Robin he should have thrown his consciousness into deathstroke and had him surrender to the authorities. That seems like a much better way of handling the problem instead of throwing yourself on Deathstroke's sword.

I've begun to suspect that the reason that this is about as good as it gets for trans representation is because the only time a network will greenlight something that includes trans characters, or particularly that is made by a trans person, is when they want to buy a new audience who isn't already watching the things they air. The consequence of that would be prioritising works that are unsubtle over works that are good, and encouraging the show purchased to talk specifically about trans issues so as to be explicit as possible about who is supposed to be watching it. You see the same thing in comedy, I think a big part of the reason that the "women aren't good at standup" stereotype exists is because people keep hiring women to rant about the inconveniences of being a woman, rather than to tell jokes; cathartic laughter instead of amused laughter, same way right wing comedy works. Incidentally, you know a show is going to be terrible when all the characters have the names of herbs, instead of human names. That's my writing advice: Stop using naming schemes outside of parody. Also, I'm getting pretty sick of "magic school" fiction having these nonsense wish fulfillment school setups where the teachers are friends and you're allowed to do whatever you want.

Jericho was important in the comics, but only in the Titans comics, and sadly he got turned evil for stupid reasons before dying and staying dead. Also, yes, he had body jacking, despite that not lining up with his dad or sister. And Rose used to be written as a capable superheroine, but a lot of hack writing makes her evil. The Titans have had a lot of a ups and downs over the decades. And some of those downs are... real... yeesh. But when there's a diverse cast of characters that has been around for decades under changing writers, editors, and executives.... things happen. Plot lines get dropped, characters get arbitrarily turned evil, characters suffer for good and bad plots alike, people who don't have a clue what they're doing get handed responsibility for the cast, bold new directions are taken without regard for prior plans, event comics spill over into other books, It's a lot. Not that it can't be done well, and there have been truly magnificent Titans stories, like the Technus Imperative. It's just that the bad stuff makes for good review content.

Sage was obviously heavily inspired by Mindy Khaling’s Velma character. That’s what sucks about most modern cartoon characters. They’re either Seth Rogen/Family Guy style characters that rely too heavily on middle school level edge lord dick humor, shock humor, and excessive swearing to the point that it feels like forced humor, or they’re Mindy Khaling/Velma style characters that are spiteful assholes who actions are attempted to be justified by the plot, who treat everyone around them, especially those who are supposed to be their friends, like complete shit just because, and try to push a political agenda or act like a political mouth piece for the creator. If the character is meant to be an antagonist, they can be a total asshole, because then it would fit better. Also, what happened to making main characters that actually have more than one dimension, are likable, and have flaws and tough experiences that the audience can relate to and work through to develop more deeply.

The parallels between the teachers at Hogwarts and the teachers at Lynn Garth -or however you spell it -really shed a light on how dangerous and irresponsible the professors in the HP universe are. Both love to send children into deadly situations unnecessarily and a knack for psychological abuse.
